The Benefits Of Cardio Training

There are so many benefits of any exercise that falls outside your normal daily movement, in particular any form of cardio you might enjoy.

Cardio training is any form of exercise that raises your heart rate. Types of cardio training could include jogging, walking, swimming, dancing, bike riding the possibilities are endless.

Here are a few benefits to including some cardio training into your weekly schedule.

  1. Cardio is excellent for your heart. Any form of exercise strengthens your heart and helps it pump blood through the body more efficiently. (1)

  2. Cardio improves your brainpower. Cardio increases blood flow to the brain, and your breathing becomes heavier. This heavier breathing leads to more oxygen getting pumped into your bloodstream and brain, which then leads to neurogenesis, which is the production of neurons in parts of your brain that control memory and thinking. (2)

  3. Cardio helps improve your sleep. Aerobic exercise can enhance the quality of sleep, improve your mood and your quality of life. (3)

  4. Cardio strengthens your immune system. Regular aerobic exercise can increase antibodies in your blood that strengthen your immune system. (4)

Like all things exercise there is too much of a good thing. How much, how often and how intense all comes down to the individual. We all have different needs, goals and limitations. If you are looking to add muscle too much cardio might be a bad idea. If you're looking to improve your fitness, then a slight increase might be right for you.

What is the best kind of cardio exercise? The one you enjoy and will do regularly. Its never too late to start enjoying physical activity and reaping the health benefits from it!
